Legal Services
A Woman's Place's legal advocates can assist and support victims as they navigate the civil legal system. These services include obtaining and enforcing personal protection orders, applying for victim's compensation or the Address Confidentiality Program, court accompaniment, and legal referrals.
Please note that our legal advocates are not attorneys and are not able to provide legal advice or representation. Legal advocates, however, are available to survivors to discuss their legal rights, the legal process, possible outcomes and to provide information that will help survivors make informed decisions about whether to engage in the court process.

Personal Protection Orders
|
Protection orders, sometimes referred to as restraining orders, are available to those experiencing domestic violence as one safety tool. A protection order forbids and attempts to restrain a perpetrator from doing something, such as contacting you, threatening you, entering your property, going to your place of work, residence or any other place know to be frequent by you. Our legal advocates can assist you in completing protection order paperwork, explain the legal process, and accompany you to file the order and to court.
